Bed and breakfast in Stockholm
All tourists who have stayed in Scandinavia say that it’s certainly not the cheapest touristic place in Europe. That is why when speaking about where to stay in Stockholm we mention several types of Stockholm accomodation – cheaper hostels, more or less costly hotels and expensive luxurious hotels and apartments.
If you don’t want to pay too much
Well, Radisson or Scandic are hardly suitable places to stay in Stockholm for thrifty students. Such a decision is totally normal because super comfort of Stockholm b&b is unimportant for a great number of travelers. Basically students and people who don’t want to waste too much prefer Stockholm hostels. There are many really good hostels in Stockholm, but we suggest that you also check available hotel rooms.
There are tens of tiny and cozy unusual hotels made in that remarkable Swedish style and design. The probability to chance upon a discount and book a great hotel room for affordable price is very high. Finally, it’s much better to book a room in a local original Swedish hotel than to put up at an ordinary hostel full of irritating and noisy meanies.
Live in a ship!
Looking at the map we can see that actually cheap accomodation in Stockholm is situated close to big water. It is the main reason for people calling it “Northern Venetia”. It’s very convenient to stay in a ship since basically all ships are in very beautiful parts of the city. There are both affordable hotels and hostels in ships from 20 Euros for a bed in dorms. One will hardly find more unusual accomodation in Stockholm.
Experienced tourists also say that choosing a ship is actually much better and cheaper than in any “land hotel”. According to their words, the ships are basically staying quite close to the city center. It means that you will not be living in a cool place but also have all main attraction sites right near.
Turn into a local citizen
If you like more freedom and comfort you can check rental houses and apartments. That is relatively costly choice, but you should consider that average salary and pension in Sweden is nearly the highest in the whole world. Actually that is the reason of why rental houses are not that popular.
A reasonable solution is to rent a small house far from the center. It will allow you to save decent money and see how locals in ordinary districts live. That’s a great experience as well. It is also a fabulous chance to see whether there is a big different between the central part and other districts of Stockholm.
Rental apartments and houses suit well tourists who are not keen on seeing absolutely every point of interest. Non-touristic side is also very interesting. If you want to see the full picture – live among local people but not with other tourists.
Top level of comfort
Some tourists, however, prefer putting up at absolutely comfort. If you really need to have a great bed, a big and clean bathroom and tasty meals in the hotel restaurant – choose a hotel. Stockholm may offer a large number of global hotel chains. Local chains can be interesting as well. Furthermore, you will see some hotels which are much more beautiful and Swedish.
Grand Hotel is possibly the greatest place where a wealthy tourist could put up at since this amazing hotel is situated right in the very heart of the city. Historical places, restaurants, museums – everything is located within a short walking distance from Grand Hotel. The only minus is that the prices for rooms are higher than in most of Western cities.
Find your couch
One is better to look for bed and breakfast in Stockholm in hotels and good hostels. However, there is another way to get to a place for open-minded people – an online service called Couchsurfing. There you will see hundreds of people from various countries and cities including, of course, Stockholm who invite everybody to stay. It’s very easy – make your profile on Couchsurfing, find a possible host living in the Swedish capital and then send a message to him. That is how you may not only learn more about this fantastic city but also make new acquaintances.
